Geothermal district energy

In a first for Minnesota, this networked geothermal system uses aquifer thermal energy, drawing water from underground aquifers to heat and cool buildings. The highly efficient system, in tandem with solar and energy storage, significantly reduces energy costs and improves energy reliability.

All buildings at The Heights site are required to use the geothermal system. It will serve about 1,000 new housing units, including affordable homes and rentals, and 1 million square feet of light industrial space. Loan repayment will be via federal Investment Tax Credits.

Approved by MnCIFA Board of Directors
